A Bumpy Ride On Delta Air Lines Down The Baja California Coast

By

I’m on the final portion of my SAS Million Mile Bonus trip, with a quick trip to Mexico that I’m sharing about real-time style.

Our journey to Mexico began with a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles (LAX) To Los Cabos (SJD) on a 737-900 and was marked by light chop throughout the flight, meaning I did not get to experience Delta’s world-class service onboard.

Delta’s 737-900 has 2-2 seating in first class and 3-3 seating in economy class. Having booked our ticket late and not holding Delta SkyMiles Medallion status (the SkyTeam Plus status with SAS did not get me anything in terms of seats), Augustine and I wound up toward the back of the plane.

We took off on-time and immediately experienced a light chop onboard…it wasn’t “turbulence” but it was bumpy.

Unfortunately, the bumps meant that I could not experience Delta’s premium service onboard!

Flight attendants hastily came down the aisle offering water, but that was it…no beverage service or snacks.

Honestly, the chop wasn’t too bad at all and I think the “better safe than sorry” approach taken by US pilots and cabin crews is not unreasonable but also perhaps not the right balance. Sure, I survived just fine without a cup of coffee and a Biscoff cookie…but it was a 911-flight…and even if there was forecasted turbulence, the seatbelt light was off for half the flight!

When I went back to use the lavatory, I asked the flight attendants if I could have a cookie for my son and was obliged, with one flight attendant remarking that the flight was too bumpy.

Whatever…I had a productive flight thanks to a plug and free Wi-Fi onboard. It worked flawlessly, I knocked out two hours of work, and Augustine enjoyed the seatback screen (watching a LEGO movie he’s probably seen many times already…).

It was an easy start to our trip.

Next up: an unexpected change of plans in Los Cabos
