A Pleasant Trip To Malaga On SAS A320neo Economy Class

I’m live-blogging my SAS EuroBonus SkyTeam Milion Mile challenge this week. Click here for background and route information.

It was such a beautiful day in Copenhagen (a rare clear and unseasonably warm November day) that I hated to leave…a few days here would have been so nice. But duty called it was on to our next flight: an SAS A320neo in economy class to Malaga, Spain.

SAS A320neo Economy Class Review

Boarding was delayed (giving us time to visit the LEGO store) but by the time we reached the gate, we were the last to board.

SAS was boarding the front of the aircraft via a jetbridge and the rare via stairs…a perfect opportunity to step out into the crisp autumn afternoon. I got a great picture of Augustine that I think may capture this entire journey:

Other boarding photos:

We settled into our seat and this time, we wound up with an open middle seat between us, which made the nearly four-hour flight so much more bearable. No coughing seatmate!

SAS legroom is only 30 inches and there are no power ports beyond a USB-A port, but I had charged my laptop in the lounge and was ready for a productive flight.

Augustine journaled a little…

Complimentary coffee or tea were served after takeoff but all drinks were for purchase. We pre-purchased two meals and those were delivered too.

I did a separate post on these lunches, but SAS offers a solid choice of meals for purchase onboard, the only caveat being you have to reserve them at least 18 hours in advance. $14 for a hearty chicken lunch of $10 for a kids’ meal isn’t exactly cheap, but the food was very fresh and quite delicious.

Augustine handed me his Froosh (relatively healthy when it comes to juices since there is no sugar added) and I quite enjoyed it.

Water you must pay for on SAS…

Wi-Fi internet was complimentary for SAS EuroBouns Gold and Diamond members, but sadly stopped functioning very early in the flight. I was still able to use the time to get some work done for my other position, but it was not as efficient (which is emerging as a theme on this trip).

Meanwhile, Augustine–who was in a much better move after a stop in the LEGO store–slept through most of the flight.

I got up once to use the lavatory and found it clean, but quite small.

It was a beautiful day outside, including the sunset as we approached Malaga:

Everyone was well-behaved on board, the crew was polite and efficient (though not as friendly as the flight from London to Copenhagen), and we landed about 40 minutes early into Malaga.

Sadly, our time in Malaga would also be limited…we had one more flight…but my two flights on SAS worked out just fine and I was glad to see that the core onboard experience with SAS has not changed with the move from Star Alliance to SkyTeam (sure, I’d love to see free beverages and snacks back, or at least water, but at least the tea and coffee have not been cut back).
