Aeromexico Closes Both Flagship Mexico City Lounges At Once, Offers No Alternates
Just a warning to those of you flying Aeromexico or on a SkyTeam carrier from Mexico City (MEX): two flagship lounges are closed for 11 months with few viable alternatives.
Aeromexico Closed Both Flagship Lounges In Mexico City
Both international and national Salon Premier lounges in Mexico City (MEX) were closed temporarily on February 10, 2025. Newly renovated international and domestic Salon Premier lounges are slated to reopen in December 2025.
Aeromexico says it is renovating these lounges “to provide you with a renewed space where you can enjoy greater comfort and exclusivity on every journey and adds that “closing both lounges simultaneously allows us to optimize construction efforts and deliver a fully upgraded experience in the shortest possible time.”
But in terms of providing alternates, Aeromexico only suggests a “co-branded card.”

And disturbingly, this language is buried deep on the Aeromexico website, with passengers not made aware of these lounge closures when booking tickets.
The Aeromexico Terraza Premier by Heineken is apparently still open, but that is a small lounge and I can only imagine that is very crowded now (although it is no longer a Priority Pass Lounge).
There are other Priority Pass lounges still available and the American Express Centurion Lounge is not bad at all (though I realize I may be in the minority with that assessment).
But it strikes me as very odd that Aeromexico would close both lounges at once, at least without providing viable alternatives, even if that is just in the form of generous vouchers so that premium cabin and status passengers can enjoy some food and drink in the terminal ahead of their flight.
CONCLUSION
Keep in mind that Aeromexico’s main lounges for both domestic and international departures are currently closed through December 2025.
While I would not necessarily avoid flying through MEX during this time (the lounges were not particularly great in the first place), this will make terminal areas and other lounges even more crowded. Hopefully, the wait will be worthwhile and Aeromexico will offer true flagship lounge facilities once the renovation is complete.
