An Indonesian man has been sentenced to jail for flashing a “Singapore Girl” on a Singapore Airlines flight to Singapore Changi.

Man Flashes Singapore Girl on SIA Flight, Sentenced To Jail

Brilliant Angjaya, aged 23, was traveling from Mainland China to Singapore (SIN) in business class on January 23, 2025. During the flight, he consumed two glasses of Champagne along with his in-flight meal, and then went to sleep.

When he got up, he went to the lavatory, then returned to his seat with his trousers down and appendage hanging out. He turned on his mobile phone video, summoned the flight attendant, then asked for his pre-arrival meal. The mollified flight attendant first looked the opposite way, then simply set the food down on his tray, turned around, and scurried away.

But she had noticed the camera recording and reported what happened to her supervisor.

The supervisor came over and asked the man if he had been filming. He denied it, but shortly thereafter admitted to what he had done and handed over his phone. Police met the aircraft in Singapore and arrested the man.

Angjaya’s attorney later argued before a Singapore magistrate court that his client was in a “troubled state” and very saddened to leave China after a five-month study program, knowing that he most likely would never see many of the friends he had made for the rest of his life.

While prosecutors had sought six weeks in jail, he was ultimately sentenced to three, with the judge saying that he felt the defendant was remorseful for his actions, but nevertheless, his conduct was “inexplicable” and “inexcusable.” The lead prosecutor lamented:

“Had he been truly remorseful, he would not have lied to the victim’s supervisor when asked if he was recording. He would have come clean from the onset.”

Angya’s also penned an apology note which was read in court, which addressed the Singapore Girl, “You do not deserve the distress and complications I caused you… I hope it gives you at least some comfort knowing that I will face justice for my action.”

CONCLUSION

Whether this was meant as a joke or not, Angjaya was pretty stupid to engage in such a foolish act. Three weeks sounds about right to me, hopefully giving him a wake-up call that actions have consequences. His greater punishment will (should?) be a lifetime ban on Singapore Airlines and persona non grata status in Singapore.

Hat Tip: SINJIM // note: SIA still uses the term “stewardess” for its “Singapore Girl” cabin crew  – the name does carry such negative implications in East Asia.
