Delta Air Lines has banned a conservative comedian for his crude joke at the expense of a flight attendant wearing a pride pin.

Delta Bans Conservative Comedian For Crude Post On X

Tyler Fischer is a New York comedian who has made a name for himself poking fun at “woke” culture. Recently, he shared a photo of a Delta flight attendant wearing an LGBT pride pin along with scornful commentary:

a person wearing a vest

His crude post prompted a flurry of outrage, such that he deleted it.

But many had screenshotted it and it was sent to Delta, who decided to add Fischer to its permanent no-fly list. A letter from Delta to Fischer explained the reason for the ban:

During the flight, you took a photo of our flight attendant, who was wearing a pin permitted under Delta policies.

You subsequently posted the photo on X, along with vulgar and hurtful language towards our flight attendant’s perceived sexual orientation. Delta is proud to employ 100,000 individuals from many backgrounds who serve all our customers and their communities.

In short, the post was disrespectful towards our flight attendant and contrary to Delta’s values and culture. We have deemed your behavior to be unacceptable and made the decision to now allow you to fly Delta Air Lines. For the safety of our crew members and our customer, we cannot risk this type of behavior from you again.

There is no ban against photography onboard, though Delta has promised its flight attendants it would support them against passengers who take pictures that are “not well-intentioned.”

Although he protests the ban, Fischer has turned it into a comedy trope he calls the  “No Fly List” tour.

My Thoughts

While I would not have banned him, I also understand why Delta did ban him. He took photos to shame and attack a flight attendant and his statement was crude and unnecessary. Of course, he enjoys free speech rights to post such images (there is no reasonable expectation of privacy, even on an airplane), but that means the government cannot prosecute him for such rhetoric…not that Delta must do business with him.

With the way things are going lately, I can see the Trump administration making a big deal out of this such that Delta is asked to back down or lose federal contracts…but let’s see how this plays out.

My own view is that a pride flag pin could mean many things (including simply solidarity with a long-marginalized group) and attacking a flight attendant for wearing one is very different than attacking a flight attendant for wearing a Hamas pin (i.e. promoting a terrorist government)…

I’m still of the opinion that no such pins of any right, left, or center ideological persuasion should be allowed in uniform, but would it be so hard to treat others with respect, even if you see the world differently than they do? Delta has determined that these pins are allowed and so cruelly mocking a flight attendant with such harsh language serves no legitimate purpose other than to intimidate.

CONCLUSION

Comedian Tyler Fischer was banned by Delta for an incendiary post on X attacking a flight attendant wearing a pride pin. He is now asking Elon Musk to help him but I find it hard to blame Delta for standing up for its crewmembers…
