Döner Kebab Coming To Flights Between Germany And Turkey

An estimated two million Döner Kebabs are consumed in Germany each day and soon this Turkish snack will be available on flights between Germany and Turkey on Turkish carrier Corendon Airlines.

Corendon Airlines Will Serve Döner Kebab Onboard Flights From Germany To Turkey

Döner kebab is a dish of Turkish origin made of meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie. Seasoned meat stacked in the shape of an inverted cone is turned slowly on the rotisserie. The sliced meat of a doner kebab may be served on a plate with various accompaniments, stuffed into a pita or other type of bread as a sandwich, or wrapped in a thin flatbread

When I lived in Germany, I had a “Dönerbude” right around the corner from my apartment and I quickly fell in love with this Turkish-German delicacy. It’s wryly referred to as the hangover cure, but I enjoyed many lunches and early dinners there…

Corendon Airlines, a Turkish leisure airline based at Antalya Airport with destinations across Europe, will introduce döner kebab for purchase next month, with a sandwich costing 8€ and served with ayran, a savory yogurt drink.

A Corendon Airlines spokesperson explained:

“Our thought process was simple—what do people in Germany eat the most? Turkish doner stands out significantly. Both our Turkish and German passengers love it, so, we decided to offer doner on flights originating from Germany. They make it exceptionally well; I’ve tried it myself and loved it. I’m confident our passengers will be delighted with this new offering.”

If successful, Corendon plans to introduce this popular sandwich on more routes.

Carsten Spohr, the CEO of Lufthansa, is so worried about money that maybe he should try serving this…At 8€, I’m certainly a customer! I’m not sure I’ll fly Corendon just for the döner, but I’d love to give it a try!
