My Loutish Seatmate Should Have His Social Credit Score Docked…

I’m live-blogging my SAS EuroBonus SkyTeam Milion Mile challenge this week. Click here for background and route information.

How can someone be so oblivious or indifferent to the fact that his mobile phone is disturbing everyone onboard the aircraft seated around him when not using headphones? Yet that was our loutish seatmate on Xiamen Airlines. The Chinese government should dock his social credit score!

Our Loud And Loutish Seatmate On Xiamen Airlines…

Augustine and I boarded our Xiamen Airlines flight first, but shortly after a Chinese man boarded and sat across the aisle from us. He proceeded to doom scroll through his social media, playing videos very loudly, such that the entire business class cabin was disturbed.

This continued for about 10 minutes, sadly with no flight attendant intervention (even though both male and female cabin crew members walked by several times).

Thankfully, he got bored and decided to go to sleep, even before we took off.

I wonder if he knew and did not care that he was disturbing others or simply totally oblivious to it?

Finally, I do know there is not a single “social credit system” in China, particularly one run by the CCP. Rather one’s “social credit score” is more an umbrella term for what we may think of as credit scores here in the West (that’s simplistic, but you get the point). So no, I’m not trying to imply that this man should be placed in the Xinjiang “re-education” camp for using his phone without headphones.

But that does not make him any less rude or obnoxious for failing to consider those passengers around him.
