Review: Qantas Lounge Hong Kong (HKG)

Qantas Lounge Review Hong Kong HKG - 22

While Cathay Pacific has many excellent lounges at Hong Kong International Airport for oneworld flyers, Qantas offers a lounge of is own and it is a superb lounge with excellent food and drinks (including the best coffee in HKG) and great service.

Qantas Lounge Hong Kong Review (HKG)

After visting The Wing and The Deck, I stopped at the Qantas Lounge, another great option for oneworld flyers from Hong Kong.

Hours + Access + Location

The Qantas Lounge is located in Terminal 1, near gate 5. If you are proceeding to this lounge from security and passport control, it’s easy to miss. Make a sharp right after security and look for a narrow corridor leading to the lounge (before proceeding down to the concourse level).

The lounge is open daily from 7:30 am until 11:00 pm (which covers all Qantas departures, but not oneworld departures from HKG).

In line with oneworld lounge policy, access is granted to:

  • oneworld sapphire and oneworld emerald members traveling on a oneworld flight in any cabin of service
  • same-day oneworld business class or first class passengers

Seating

This is a very spacious lounge (over 21,000 square feet or 2,000 square meters) with room for almost 300 travelers. But during my 8:00 pm visit, I had the lounge almost all to myself. Qantas has a Sydney departure at 7:30 pm and a Melbourne departure at 8:05 pm and those passengers had just left, leaving a very quiet lounge for me and a few other travelers.

The lounge is essentially one large room with a high ceiling divided into different sections. Seating includes comfortable chairs, a long bar, a dining area with tables and chairs, and plenty of couches and desks further back into the lounge.

But one complaint: you’re going to have to search out a power port (and this is a recurring problem in Qantas Lounges around the world). I love the lounge design and the comfort of the seating, but it’s a shame there are not more power outlets in this lounge.

Food + Drink

Food is buffet-style in this lounge, with a wide variety of salads, hot dishes from around the world, and desserts.

Near the buffet, a full-service bar offers wine, beer, cocktails, and barista-made coffee.

I was hungry at this point and while the Cathay Pacific lounges have excellent food, something in particular caught my eyes here: Moroccan braised lamb tagine, apricots and herbs…one of my favorite dishes. I began with some mixed nuts (oh, how I love salted pecans!) and a “Berrissimo” cocktail.

The lamb tagine was excellent:

I concluded the meal with a flat white:

Restrooms + Showers

Past a little neon kitty sign (to the left as you enter the lounge), you can find the restrooms and shower suites. The men’s room was clean and spacious…

12 shower suites are available, which are spacious and have toilets. Shower amenities are from Li’Tya (an Australian company that uses indigenous Australian plants to create their products).

Scanning, copying, and printing (even wireless printing) is available. The “air-printer” is located toward the back of the lounge.

Service

The staff was unbelievably kind in this lounge and far friendlier than the Cathay Pacific lounges in terms of being outgoing and proactive.

CONCLUSION

I had a very nice stay at this lounge and loved the delicious meal and coffee here…I always make it a point to stop in this lounge and this visit merely reinforced that. The Cathay Pacific lounges are all excellent…but I do love this lounge and you’ll find it is very quiet in the morning and late evening.

It’s fun to compare how lounges have changed…or do not change…over the years. In this case, not much has changed. My original review of the Qantas Lounge Hong Kong, first published on May 18, 2017, is below.

When it come to lounges, Qantas never disappoints. Its Hong Kong (HKG) lounge is no exception.

Located above Gate 15 on Level 7, the lounge is open daily from 9:30a to 11:30p.

The lounge is very spacious. I spent three hours here and despite a lot of people, it never felt crowded.

A coffee/espresso machine is available, but don’t bother with it: the lounge also has a barista that will make you a much better cup of coffee.

There are a few drink stations located strategically throughout the lounge–

If you prefer to be served, just sit down and a lounge attendant will bring you over the beverage of your choice.

Do take part in a meal here. The quality of the buffet is great. In addition, there is not a full a la carte menu, but a daily special. The special during my visit was pan-roasted salmon. It was amazing.

This meal was particularly great because there was not a full dinner offered on my late evening Qantas flight to Sydney.

You will need a power adaptor if you have a US, Continental European, or even Australian plug–the lounge uses the British/Hong Kong style:

CONCLUSION

This is truly one of my favorite business class lounges in the world. Take time to properly enjoy a nice meal here.
