Sky Club Or BBQ Joint? Delta Lounge Member Packs Bag With Ribs And Chicken

In open rebellion against the terms and conditions of Delta SkyClub access, one hungry (or perhaps greedy is the better word…) passenger loaded his bag with plates of ribs, chicken, sides, and chocolate chip cookies. A banana or apple is one thing, but this? Come on, folks.

Man Loads His Bag With Ribs, Chicken, And Chocolate Chip Cookies in Delta Sky Club

In a post titled, “Who Knew The Sky Club Did Takeout,” a member shared what he observed:

“I saw him pack up at least 3 PLATES (yes, we have paper) full of food and put them in his plastic shopping bag. I wanted to get a pic of the situation, but it’s not cool to post people‘s pics. As if on cue, he got up to grab some…wait for it…bananas, so I quickly snapped a pic of his food haul. Dude has a penchant for St. Louis ribs and garlic chicken, not to mention sides and chocolate chip cookies.”

The terms and conditions do clearly specify:

Food and beverages may not be removed from any Delta Sky Club.

So does that mean you cannot take a cup of coffee or a bagel out? By the letter of the “law” the answer is yes…but that’s really not what this rule appears to be targeting.

Instead, this rule is meant to discourage folks like this from taking a meal to go (or multiple meals to go…).

Delta has opened a grab-and-go lounge in Atlanta (United has also opened grab-and-go locations in Houston and Denver). Capital One lounges also have a dedicated takeout section where you are not only encouraged to take food along, but as much as you want.

The Delta grab-and-go concept is offered as an either-or choice: you can take items from the grab-and-go section or visit the lounge upstairs, but not both.

I find this sort of behavior deplorable…it’s a textbook example of “this is why we cannot have nice things.” I’m not sure I would have handled the matter any differently (ratting him out instead of just taking a picture), but I would hope that if a Delta lounge worker “caught” him s/he would have spoken up.

How should such folks be handled?
