“We Were Hanging Like Bats!” Video Captures Onboard Evacuation Of Crashed Delta Flight
More pictures and video are emerging from the frenzied evacuation of Delta Air Lines flight 4819, a CRJ-900 operated by Endeavor Air that flipped over during landing in Toronto on Monday afternoon.
Wow: Video Captures Evacuation Of Delta 4819 In Toronto
Fascinating but graphic video shows a flight attendant helping passengers evacuate from the aircraft (warning: the language is coarse and unnecessarily gratuitous):
Delta CEO Ed Bastian remarked, “The hearts of the entire global Delta family are with those affected by today’s incident at Toronto-Pearson International Airport.”
Meanwhile, first-hand accounts from passengers are emerging. Pete Koukov, who captured the video above, remarked:
“We hit the ground, and we were sideways, and then we were upside down hanging like bats.
“Just feeling lucky and happy I got to give the person I didn’t know sitting next to me a big hug, that we were OK, and see my friends who are here to pick me up from the airport and give them a big hug.”
Most passengers were able to unbuckle their own seatbelts but some required assistance. Flight attendants were adamant that passengers leave all items onboard and it seems that most (if not all) complied.
We still don’t know exactly what caused the Endeavor Air CRJ-900 to flip over, but what a blessing that everyone was able to get off and that while there were two passengers who were critically injured, no deaths are expected from this crash.
As Koukov said, “Being alive feels pretty cool today.”
Indeed.
