Woman Treats United Airlines 757-200 Business Class Cabin As Her Personal Gym
Here’s a case of that fine line between minding your own business and being obnoxious onboard: it is okay to use your (rather tight) premium cabin seat as a personal gym to perform calisthenics and stretching during a flight? One woman pushed the boundaries on her 757-200 United Airlines flight in business class.
Fair? Woman Turns Business Class Cabin Into Gym On United Airlines 757-200 As Others Look On In Disbelief
The woman is accused of working out “the entire flight” while “flight attendants did nothing.” I don’t buy it…I doubt she was working out during takeoff, landing, and the meal service. I also doubt that even between it, she spent hours working out.
United uses its 757-200 on premium transcontinental routes as well as on select transatlantic and hub-to-hub flights. You can read my review of the business class cabin here. There’s not enough room to really move around the cabin and exercise and window seats do not have direct aisle access. While stretching is one thing, any more intense exercise would have been very annoying to a seatmate (though of course, maybe she was traveling with her spouse).
On the one hand, I realize there’s wisdom in minding our own business. Furthermore, isn’t stretching and exercise a far better way to use your time than sitting like a zombie watching a movie?
Yes, but as I said about “GI Joe” who was working out in the American Airlines lounge, it’s simply rude to do calisthenics in the middle of an airport first class lounge (especially when you grunt while performing reps). I do admire wanting to stay healthy, but a shared space is not the place for a workout. Unlike a lounge, there is no escape on a flight. While a few minutes of stretching are one thing, if this did turn out into an extended workout, I do find it disturbing.
Live and let live…but not in shared space at 35,000 feet….
