Scott Shoup, the flight attendant who kicked off blogger JT Genter from an American Airlines flight from New York to London, has quite a colorful Facebook profile.

Facebook Profile Gives Us More Clues About American Airlines Flight Attendant Who Kicked Off Blogger

You can read what happened here, then read the flight attendant’s side of the story as well as Genter’s rebuttal here. Shoup is pictured above with Timothy Carie, the purser on Genter’s flight.

I was surprised that Shoup went on the record by using his own name in his rebuttal and he does not hide the fact that he is an AA flight attendant. I suspect it won’t be public very long, but his Facebook profile is quite revealing.

His top banner image reads: “If you don’t terrify people a little bit then what’s the point.”

Another image talk about his patience, showing a tiny bag with the caption:

“This bag is so tiny. What can it hold?”

Me: “My patience for people”

Perhaps most alarming, Shoup posted an image saying, “My toxic trait is when I find out someone doesn’t like me, I try to make it worse.”

Now there’s de-escalation training in action!

Or this commentary on understaffing:

Looking at the totality of his posts on Facebook, I could make some NSFW comments on his personal preferences, his grievances against his employer, and his solidarity with fellow flight attendants as long as they are nice to him.

He strikes me as a fairly typical “career” FA…senior enough to hold a line on plumb routes and quite confident that he is untouchable in his role.

He’s probably a barrel of laughs if you’re on his good side but if you fall on his bad side, you will suffer his wrath.

I wasn’t onboard and as much as I’d like Genter to release the audio, until he does we can only piece together the clues we have…and Shoup’s social media profile suggests someone who has little tolerance for those who annoy him.

That’s fine (and sometimes even refreshing) in terms of his personal time, but when he’s wearing the AA uniform and dealing with all sorts of people, you do have to wonder if this crosses a line…
