A bad situation only became worse onboard an Indigo flight when a man suffering a panic attack was slapped by his seatmate.

IndiGo Passenger Slaps Fellow Traveler Amid Panic Attack—Victim Goes Missing, Then Found

On July 31, 2025, an unsettling episode occurred aboard IndiGo flight 6E‑138 from Mumbai (BOM) to Kolkata (CCU). A passenger, identified as Hossain Ahmed Majumder, appeared to suffer a panic attack while the aircraft was taxiing. He began crying and walking down the aisle, asking to deplane. Moments later, another passenger got up and slapped him across the face. The confrontation was caught on video and quickly went viral.

Crew members and fellow passengers stepped in, offering water and calming the distressed man. Indian media reported that Majumder later said he was “scared” and “shivering” during the episode. He also claimed the man who slapped him appeared to “lose his mind” upon seeing his behavior (begging the question who really lost his mind…)

Upon landing in Kolkata, the man who slapped Majumder, identified as Hafijul Rahaman, was deemed an unruly passenger and handed over to local police. IndiGo released a statement calling the behavior “unacceptable” and said Rahaman may be placed on its no-fly list pending the outcome of the investigation. Majumder was taken to a hospital for evaluation and later released.

But the story didn’t end there. Majumder was supposed to take a connecting flight to Silchar (IXS) but never boarded. Family members were unable to reach him, prompting a police search across Kolkata and Assam. On August 2, he was finally located at a railway station in Barpeta in Western Assam, returning home safely by train.

I find the conduct of Rahaman absolutely disgusting…it appears to me he deserves a ban because this sort of behavior is grossly unacceptable, wholly unprovoked, potentially sectarian motivated, and therefore Rahaman represents a threat to others.

CONCLUSION

I’m not sure why it even has to be said, but no one should ever be slapped mid-flight for having a panic attack. IndiGo handled this properly but Rahaman should not be permitted to travel on IndiGo any longer…
